It’s made from compressed aspen wood strands bonded with resins and coated with a protective primer. Although its manufacturing process is similar to that of OSB panels, LP® SmartSide® is not an OSB panel.

LP® SmartSide® products are manufactured using the patented SmartGuard® technology, which is one of the main reasons this material is highly resistant to environmental factors. This process incorporates four protective components, significantly increasing the panel’s durability and enabling LP® SmartSide® products to withstand warping, temperature fluctuations, high humidity, and other harsh conditions.

Are LP® SmartSide® sheds resistant to moisture and weather conditions?

Yes, LP® SmartSide® panel sheds are resistant to both moisture and various weather conditions. This durability is made possible by the SmartGuard® technology used in the production of LP® SmartSide® panels.

– Zinc Borate – This naturally derived additive protects the panels from fungi and pests. LP® SmartSide® contains three times more zinc borate than standard materials. It’s safe for humans but effectively eliminates pest infestation.

– Resins – A marine-grade epoxy resin is applied to the panels, providing exceptional resistance to heavy impacts and temperature fluctuations.

– Wax – Water-resistant wax coats every wood strand, creating a moisture barrier that withstands rain, snow, and humidity.

– Primed Coating – This final protective layer shields the panel from moisture and creates a durable base for strong paint adhesion.

LP® SmartSide® panel sheds also offer increased roof load capacity—up to 120 kg/m². In contrast, traditional wooden sheds typically have a recommended maximum load of only 30 kg/m² (e.g., during snowfall).

Are LP® SmartSide® panel sheds pre-treated or painted?

No, LP® SmartSide® panel sheds are not pre-treated or painted. They can be painted after assembly. However, we recommend applying one coat of paint to the backside of the wall panels before installation, as this surface becomes hard to reach afterward. Doing so ensures complete moisture protection and extends the product’s lifespan.

Is it difficult to assemble an LP® SmartSide® panel shed?

No, assembling an LP® SmartSide® panel shed is not difficult. The shed is built using a panelized construction system, meaning most components—such as wall panels, roof sections, and other parts—are pre-fabricated and delivered ready for assembly.
